Learning Differences are What Make Us Unique!
There are strengths and challenges that come with every learning difference. For some students their strengths overshadow their challenges and for others, their challenges overshadow their strengths in the classroom setting. I have found that we often separate learners into silos which keeps us from understanding how to effectively support ALL of the learners in ALL of our classrooms.
The big idea from my perspective is that if a child has a need that is holding him or her back from moving forward, a system of understanding and support should be available. In working to understand learning from the different perspectives of our children, we can then create a structure of support that can ensure ALL children access to the supports they need to find success. If we do this, together we can go beyond our limits and make what seems impossible, possible!

I have found that the most important way for children to become autonomous is to help them to discover how they learn. Once they have this valuable information, they can then find, build, and/ or nurture their strengths while developing tools to push through their areas of challenge. This self-knowledge then empowers children to positively articulate their needs and make the educational system work for them. When children learn how to autonomously navigate their educational journey they can move from elementary through high school and beyond with confidence.
