Finding Bright Spots
I have struggled with anxiety and depression through-out my life. It was not until adulthood during Gifted and Talented certification training that I learned about Existential Depression and Dabrowski's theory of Positive Disintegration. It was such a relief to finally understand that there was a name and research to support what I had been experiencing all these years. I also understand now that while my depression and anxiety are viewed in our culture as a pathology that this can also be looked at through a positive lens. Anxiety and Depression have been two of the most difficult challenges for me, but they have also been opportunities for me to learn self-regulation strategies so that I can tap into and effectively share my gift of empathic ability with others.
